At the same time, the COSME call for projects dedicated to the social economy and the service contracts related to the \u201cSocial and Proximity Economy\u201d budget line have been cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the social economy has consistently demonstrated its central role within the European economy. Present in all sectors of activity, it now represents more than 4 million enterprises and organizations, employs 13.6 million people, and has stood out for its resilience during the 2008 financial crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>In response to this decision, which undermines years of effort and institutional recognition, stakeholders in the sector \u2013 including <strong>Social Economy Europe<\/strong> and partner organizations such as <strong>POUR LA SOLIDARIT\u00c9-PLS<\/strong> \u2013 are sounding the alarm. They are calling on the European Commission, and in particular Commissioner St\u00e9phane S\u00e9journ\u00e9, to ensure a strong institutional presence for the social economy within the European administration.<\/p>\n<h2>A Clear Demand from Social Economy organizations<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The appointment of a key person dedicated to the social economy within the Commissioner\u2019s department.<\/li>\n<li>The allocation of a sufficient budget to support continued actions in favor of the sector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The partners emphasize that their goal is not to demand the immediate re-creation of the dissolved unit, but to ensure that the social economy remains embedded in European priorities, serving a more democratic, inclusive, united, and sustainable Europe.<\/p>\n<p>In this spirit, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialeconomy.eu.org\/2025\/04\/30\/the-implications-of-dg-grow-abandoning-the-social-economy-at-a-critical-juncture\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>a signature appeal article<\/strong><\/a> has been drafted to widely mobilize the public, civil society, elected officials, and local, national, and European media. It is essential to recall that the social economy is a strategic ally in achieving Europe\u2019s objectives for ecological transition, social inclusion, and territorial cohesion.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The social economy is a strength.
