Context<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In Belgium, in various areas of social protection, potential claimants to a benefit or service are not always informed of their rights<\/strong>, do not have the reflex toapply<\/strong>, or do not know how to <\/strong>apply. This is referred to as non-use of rights<\/strong><\/a> “.<\/p>\n

When it comes to non-use, certain life paths are more frequently represented. This is particularly true of people living in social isolation. Among these are single-parent families<\/strong>, and single mothers in<\/strong> particular. In fact, single parents, of whom women are over-represented, are at significantly greater risk of poverty<\/strong> than other family categories. What’s more, the three European poverty indicators (at-risk-of-income poverty, severe material deprivation and people living in households with very low work intensity) show a higher risk of poverty for women than for men.<\/p>\n
