{"id":4313,"date":"2020-05-13T15:01:43","date_gmt":"2020-05-13T15:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hw54cbngfn.preview.infomaniak.website\/project\/rainbow-welcome-lgbtqi-refugees\/"},"modified":"2020-05-13T15:01:43","modified_gmt":"2020-05-13T15:01:43","slug":"rainbow-welcome-lgbtqi-refugees","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/pourlasolidarite.eu\/en\/project\/rainbow-welcome-lgbtqi-refugees\/","title":{"rendered":"RainboW : Welcome to LGBTQI+ refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Why?<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Because LGBTIQ+phobia \u2013 intolerance towards people with SOGIE&nbsp;other than the norm \u2013&nbsp;still exists, causing both <strong>physical and psychological violence<\/strong>, LGBTIQ+ people face discrimination and <strong>isolation<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When these acts of violence can imply (sometimes legally) death, imprisonment or social exclusion in countries around the world, LGBTIQ+ people might have to leave their home country and ask for asylum elsewhere, where they think life could be better for them. A status that often implies <strong>other discriminations and prejudices<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>This project aims to deal with this population at<strong> the intersection <\/strong>of two factors: being on the LGBTIQ+ spectrum and being an asylum seeker or refugee.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Why? Because in the EU, specialized institutions and refugees&#8217; reception centres do not always have the&nbsp;knowledge and capacities to welcome safely LGBTIQ+ refugees&nbsp;whereas LGBTIQ+ shelters are not specialized to support refugees and their specifics needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>By whom?<\/h2>\n<p>This transnational project gathers actors on the field and experts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In Belgium, PLS and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.refugeopvanghuis.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le Refuge&nbsp;Bruxelles\/Het Opvanghuis Brussel<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In Spain, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.acathi.org\/about-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ACATHI<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In France, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.le-refuge.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le Refuge<\/a><\/li>\n<li>In Italy, la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cri.it\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Croce Rossa Italiana<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How?<\/h2>\n<p>Co-funded by the European Program Right, Equality and Citizenship (2014-2020), the project \u201cRainbow Welcome\u201d aims to :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identify <strong>legal and on-the-ground procedures<\/strong> and offers dealing with welcoming LGBTIQ+ refugees;<\/li>\n<li>Identify <strong>strengths<\/strong> and <strong>weaknesses<\/strong> when answering LGBTIQ+ refugees needs;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Equip<\/strong> LGBTIQ+ shelters and associations as well as refugees&#8217; reception centres and public authorities on how to welcome, orientate and answer the needs of LGBTIQ+ refugees;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Raise awareness <\/strong>about the situation of LGBTIQ+ refugees;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Advocate <\/strong>for LGBTIQ+ refugees rights and needs towards the EU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>RainboW<\/strong> is a project rooted in today&#8217;s realities: it is essential to understand the phenomena of <strong>intersectionality<\/strong> that lead to the increased <strong>vulnerabilisation <\/strong>of some people. Leaving their country of origin becomes their only means of survival. Fleeing persecution, therefore, to find refuge in a host country where \"new labels\" are added to those of the LGBTQI+ communities (gathering people whose SOGI is different from the heterosexual and cisgender norm)&nbsp;: refugee, foreigner, or migrant.
