Why the POWER project?
In France, Belgium, and Italy, the participation of people with disabilities in volunteering remains low. POWER aims to change this by creating inclusive environments in which they can get involved, develop their skills, and fully exercise their citizenship.
In addition, people with disabilities are still too often seen as people in need of support rather than as active participants. POWER seeks to challenge these stereotypes, combat ableism, and promote active participation.
Objectives of the POWER project
- Identify engagement models and best practices relating to the volunteering of people with disabilities across Europe;
- Improve inclusion by creating new opportunities for this target group.
- Strengthen the inclusive role of European voluntary sector organizations by providing them with the tools they need to better welcome and integrate volunteers with disabilities.
Expected results
- The development of three training modules:
-
- for people with disabilities;
- for support networks;
- for organizations in the voluntary sector;
- The use of social theatre workshops to strengthen the self-confidence of people with disabilities and challenge stereotypes surrounding disability.
