#SOCIALJUSTICEDAY Call for a Just Transition!

Monday, 20 February 2023

POUR LA SOLIDARITÉ-PLS is joining again today the international SOLIDAR network, in the context of the World Day of Social Justice, to call on the European Union to facilitate and encourage a Just Transition.

‘Just Transition’ is a powerful concept that brings the social, climate and environmental justice agendas and their respective constituencies together. Ensuring a Just Transition means, among other things, addressing the social impact of climate and environmental policies or strategies, ensuring decent work for all, strengthening social protection systems, reversing the process of neoliberal privatizations and capital accumulation, taxing wealth more effectively and leaving austerity measures behind, as well as fostering sustainability transitions in partners countries around the world. In line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, SOLIDAR members and partners, including POUR LA SOLIDARITÉ – PLS, believe that respect for human rights, climate action, equity, social justice, and peace are interconnected issues. Therefore, on the World Day for Social Justice (WDSJ), we reiterate our call to the European Union to:

  1.  Promoting and Enabling Space for Civil Society Organizations and Countering Shrinking Space.
  2. Put the Health of the Planet and the People Before Profit

POUR LA SOLIDARITÉ – PLS remains convinced that the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) is a natural and necessary ally of a just transition. By perfectly combining economic prosperity and social justice, the SSE is perfectly in line with the European social model which combines social, economic and environmental utility, being a key issue for the years to come. As explained in the briefing note Introduction à l’économie sociale, drafted by PLS in December 2022, many initiatives and measures have been taken at the European level, but also worldwide, to meet these challenges.
